A story for the grandkids

I bought this little book at the Farmer's market. I wish I could be home to set my grand kiddies on my lap and read it to them but I guess this will have to do. So here we go... Hattie Hen's Red Umberella by: The Ryans
"Dear me ", sighed Hattie Hen as she made some sandwiches, "there are clouds in the sky. I'll have to wear my red rubbers and carry my red umbrella to the picnic."

As she went down the barnyard path wearing her rubbers and carrying her umbrella,

Hattie met Patty Pig. Patty was going to the picnic too.

"Hello, Hattie," Patty said. "Why are you wearing your rubbers and carrying your red umbrella? The sun is shining." "Oh, so it is," said Hattie looking up into the sky. "But it might rain. There were clouds in the sky this morning."

The two walked on until they met Trudy Turkey.

"Hello, Hattie," said Trudy. "Why are you wearing your rubbers and carrying your red umbrella? The sun is shining." "Oh so it is," replied Hattie. "But it might rain. There were clouds in the sky this morning."

Hattie, Patty, and Trudy stopped at the farmyard fence to eat their lunch. Just as they spread out their tablecloth, a big drop of rain fell-plop!-right in the middle of their picnic table.

"Dear me! It is going to rain," Said Patty Pig and Trudy Turkey. "Now we can't have our picnic." "Oh, yes we can," said Hattie Hen. "Just get under my big red umbrella. You won't get wet." So Trudy Turkey and Patty Pig got under Hattie Hen's big red umbrella, and they ate every bit of their picnic lunch. "We're certainly glad you brought your red umbrella, Hattie," Trudy and Patty said as the rain pattered down. "Umbrella picnics are fun."

The End.
The moral to this story is.....

If you live in Washington...Never leave home with out your red, yellow or poke-a-dot umbrella. You never know when your picnic might get rained on.

  1. (from Annie) that is a great idea to let my mom read the story to me, like you were reading it, but I wish you were reading it. The umbrealla thing you did was very clever and kinda dorkish it was a great picture of you though...I love you
(from Brayden) That was very clever, I see where I get my humor from.
